What FPTI Rarity Means

Every type page shows a rarity range. People treat it like a population statistic. It is not. This page exists so the number on the card stops lying by accident.

The honest definition

Rarity on FPTI is a designed range that makes a result feel collectible and screenshot-ready. It is part of the entertainment skin, like the character art and the tagline. It is not derived from a representative sample of internet users, and it is not updated from your quiz traffic in real time.

If we later publish real answer-distribution notes, we will say so plainly and separate them from this framing. Until then, treat 7–12.9% as flavor text with a percent sign.

Why it exists at all

Shareable quizzes compete with a feed that already knows how to make people feel chosen. A type without any scarcity cue gets read as a generic costume. We added ranges so the card has a collectible beat. That is a product choice. It is also a place where readers can get misled, which is why this guide exists.

How not to use it

Do not rank your friends by rarity. Do not call NPC “common” as an insult. Do not call ICE MONARCH “rare” as a personality. Do not tell someone their feelings are invalid because their type is listed as more frequent. Frequency framing is not a human ranking.

Also do not assume the matching engine is trying to dole out rare types as rewards. Matching is distance to an anchor pattern. Rarity text is painted on after the match.

What to look at instead

Look at the six scores. Look at whether your chart is spiky or flat. Look at the neighboring types. Those are the parts of the result that map to answers you actually gave. Rarity is the sticker on the box.

If you care about how often a type might appear in practice, the honest answer is: we have not published a public distribution table. Anyone claiming otherwise is inventing authority.
